Of the Final Fantasy games I've finished, this one is my least favorite. I don't like how every character has a silly gimmick you have to engage with to use their abilities. I don't find any of it fun. This is maybe the bleakest, most joyless entry in the series. Also this is just personal preference, but I don't like when a game's story forces me to use specific groups of characters at arbitrary times. I want a central protagonist who I can think of as "me", and in a game with this many characters, I want more control over who I bring with me. All that said, the soundtrack is Uematsu at his most prog, and he cooks hard on this one. "Dancing Mad" is maybe the best final boss theme of all time.
