Review

This is a romhack of Galaxian in which the designer created an entirely new game featuring Mr. Do!. (Arcade romhacks are weird.) Very little is known about this game; I can't even verify a date of release, 2006 is just the earliest I can find anyone talking about it. Anyway, it's okay. This game is pure dodging action, you won't find any of Mr. Do's trademark crushing or throwing in this one. Move around, collect all the fruit and diamonds, don't get shot by the blue monsters traversing the edge of the screen. You're still collecting the letters E-X-T-R-A, but it's a little more active, you have more control over which letter you're going to get next. It feels more like a goal to work towards than a nice bonus that randomly lines up. Once you complete EXTRA, rather than being rewarded an immediate free life, you're taken to a bonus stage where you can collect extra lives and rack up some bonus points. Pretty fun take on the genre, but the controls are laggy and the monsters quickly become much, much faster than you in a way that feels unfair. That said, the #1 high score spot feels surmountable if I practice some more.
