I have to start off with a huge caveat: the main, central activity of Yakuza 0 is being jumped by people who want to beat you up, and you have to beat them up. This part of the game I didn't enjoy at all. It's tedious button-mashing. I feel like I'm playing an idle game and I'm just clicking the cookie over and over to make more cookies fall out. There are special moves you can do, and the animations are fun to watch once, but for getting you through the fights the special moves are no more effective than mashing buttons. No, this is a game I love for its character and charm. Exploring Kamurochō, doing little Dragon Quest-esque side quests for people you meet, watching the story play out, engaging in the surprisingly large number of fun mini-games and side-activities, those parts of the game brought me a lot of joy. And for me, it was worth enduring the occasional round of chump-puncher.
