This game is nothing all that special today, but at the time it represented a refreshing return to form for first-person-shooters. In the mid-2000s, the success of the Xbox 360 and games like Call of Duty saw the genre taken over by a couple unfortunate trends: the domination of the gritty realistic military shooter, and first-person games designed first for dual-joystick gamepad controls, which never feel right when adapted to mouse and keyboard for the PC port. Hard Reset was a great-looking sci-fi shooter built for M&K in which you use cool cyberpunk weapons to mow down hundreds of robots. I prefer the corridor-crawling of Doom to the big open battle arenas in Hard Reset—expect to do a LOT of circle-strafing—but it's a good old-fashioned shooter where you can make lots of stuff blow up real good.
